The Menteşe phase of the Marine Literacy Project has been completed.

The second phase of the “ Marine Literacy Project, ” led by Dr. Mert Gökalp and supported by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality and Bodrum Municipality, and implemented by Bodtüm and Eko Miras associations, was held on September 23-24, 2025, at the Menteşe Türkan Saylan Contemporary Life Center .

Dr. Mert Gökalp , Edhem Dirvana , and Dr. Ozan Veryeri participated in the events as speakers. These experts shared their knowledge and experience with students on the protection of marine ecosystems and sustainable environmental awareness.

During this stage, 267 students had the opportunity to learn about marine ecosystems, gain knowledge about biodiversity, and discuss environmental issues through conferences, interactive presentations, and workshops.

Students participated in the event as follows :

• The importance of seagrasses for the Mediterranean,

• The effects of invasive species on the ecosystem,

• Sharks, rays, and endangered species,

• Environmental problems on our coasts (waste, irresponsible fishing, etc.),

• He received training on marine protected areas.

In addition, the documentary “ Project Posidonia: Seagrasses, ” prepared in collaboration with Muğla Metropolitan Municipality and Bodrum Municipality, was shown to the students.

Continuation of the Program

The project will continue with events to be held at Bodrum TED College on September 25-26.
