The Marine Literacy Project has begun with its first phase.

Led by Mert Gökalp, and supported by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality and Bodrum Municipality, the “ Marine Literacy Project ,” jointly carried out by Bodtüm and Eko Miras associations, has been launched.

The first phase of the project was held on September 22, 2025, at the Marmaris Armutalan Cultural Center .

Dr. Mert Gökalp , Edhem Dirvana , and Dr. Ozan Veryeri participated in the event as speakers. The experts shared their knowledge and experience regarding the protection of marine ecosystems with the students, attracting great interest.

Through conferences, interactive presentations, and workshops, participants gained scientific awareness and had the opportunity to get to know our seas more closely through hands-on activities. Additionally, the documentary “ Project Posidonia: Seagrasses, ” prepared in collaboration with Bodrum and Muğla Municipalities, was shown to the students.

The main topics discussed at the events were as follows:

• The Most Important Habitat of the Mediterranean: Seagrasses and Their Importance for Our Coasts

• Invasive Species and Their Impact on Ecosystems

• Sharks, Rays, and Endangered Species

• Problems on our coasts (waste, irresponsible fishing, etc.)

• Marine Protected Areas (practical workshops)

  
  

Continuation of the Program

The Marine Literacy Project will continue on September 23-24 at the Menteşe Türkan Saylan Contemporary Life Center and on September 25-26 at Bodrum TED College .
